As a wine lover, I was thrilled to visit Callinico Winery & Museum during my recent trip to Zakynthos. Based on the glowing reviews on TripAdvisor, I knew I was in for a treat. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint.
Upon arriving at the winery, I was immediately struck by the beauty of the surrounding vineyards. The winery is situated in a lovely location, with stunning views of the surrounding countryside. I could feel myself starting to relax as I took in the peaceful surroundings.
We were greeted by the friendly staff, who gave us a brief overview of the winery and its history. They were incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about their work, and it was clear that they took great pride in the wines they produced.
We then took a tour of the winery, which was fascinating. We learned about the wine-making process from start to finish, and got to see the various stages of production up close. It was amazing to see how much care and attention goes into each bottle of wine.
After the tour, we were treated to a tasting of several of Callinico’s wines. The staff expertly guided us through the tasting, explaining the nuances of each wine and offering suggestions for food pairings. The wines themselves were absolutely delicious – I particularly enjoyed the crisp, refreshing white wines and the bold, full-bodied reds.
But the real standout of the visit was the museum. Housed in a beautiful old building on the winery grounds, the museum tells the story of Zakynthos’ long history of wine production. It was fascinating to learn about the island’s ancient winemaking traditions, and to see the various tools and equipment used in wine production over the years.
The museum also had a wonderful collection of old wine bottles and labels, as well as a display of the different types of soil found on the island and how they affect the flavor of the wine. The attention to detail in the museum was impressive, and I could have easily spent hours exploring all of the exhibits.
Overall, my visit to Callinico Winery & Museum was one of the highlights of my trip to Zakynthos. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, the wine was delicious, and the museum was a real treat. I would highly recommend this winery to anyone visiting the island – whether you’re a wine lover or just looking for a unique cultural experience, you won’t be disappointed.
A Journey to Taste. Come visit us!
Ever since it began back in 1918 in the village of Kallipado, in the centre of Zakynthos island, the three generations behind Callinico Winery have been consistently enamored with the production of quality Zakynthian wine, and they continue their work with dedication and love today.
Everything began with a small traditional estate, where the best wine varieties of the island were gathered.
The production of sublime wines, the respect towards the consumer and the attention to every detail drove Callinico Winery to consecutive successful expansion and to a significant growth – a growth that even the disastrous earthquake of 1953 could not stop.
It was around this time where the second generation took over and continued the family tradition, passing the proverbial torch to the third generation in 1990.
Restlessly trying to better our product and our work, we have made Callinico a modern winery with state-of-the-art methods of wine production, emphasizing and promoting local wine varieties and ceaselessly centred on the client experience.
